Antipacifier Ch 2

Well, we're on day three of Kayda without her pacifier. It hasn't been as bad as we thought it would. Saturday was Kayda's first day without it. During the day there has been absolutely no problem, granted at nap time we have been out and about so the last three days she has been falling asleep in the car. At night it has been a challenge, between the muggy heat, the "no pacifier" rule and the fact that she's working on two teeth, she has taken an hour and a half to get to sleep. Unfortunately by an hour and a half I mean almost constant crying to the point that I'm offering her water because her voice is getting hoarse. Granted after she finally does get to sleep she is sleeping much better. She slept through the night Saturday night and then last night she woke up once.

We're also kicking Dillon out of the bed and trying to get him into his crib. This has been an adventure. He's waking up frequently enough that I've taken to sleeping on the floor in his room as an attempt to make my life a little bit easier. My advise for everyone who is planning to have more kids and doesn't have a strict "no pacifier, no mommy and daddy's bed" policy is JUST SAY NO!!! Letting them have pacifiers and sleep with either mommy or daddy made my life bearable while I was working but trying to end the behavior is not fun.

To talk about something happy, Kayda can officially (and has been able to for a short while) jump so that both feet get off the ground. Dillon is working VERY hard to figure out how to roll over. He can ALMOST make it BOTH directions. He can sit up pretty well on his own now, he only topples over every once in a while and he's really close to having a tooth.

The end of the world as we know it is approaching quickly. Tomorrow (Friday) is our last day of school so that means that Saturday Kayda loses her pacifier... Wish us luck... It's going to be interesting for a while.

Anyways, on to a more enjoyable topic. I know this is getting redundant but my kids are wonderful! Kayda absolutely adores Dillon and he returns her affection whole heartedly. He was playing propped up on the boppy and she started to rub and play with his feet (we play with him that way a lot) Grandma Peggy would have been jealous.

When he started to get a little crabby we picked him up she decided she should lay there so she went and snuggled in and then she wanted him there with her. We set him down next to her and she just sat there contendedly watching tv and stroking little brother's hair.

I was folding laundry in the tv room, which I don't normally do, and Kayda decided to crawl into the basket of clean clothes. She actually laid there wathing tv for a few minutes, it's cute but it makes it more than a little difficult to do the laundry. Of course, using any excuse possible to get out of doing it, the laundry didn't get done that night.


Dillon and I were playing on the couch, singing songs and standing up, a little of the flying in the air move. He was happy as could be. Unfortunately we weren't able to catch a smile but here's a cute little almost smile that he did. He absolutely loves the itsy bitsy spide. I tickle him when the spider "climbed up the water spout" and he LOVES it, he is extremely ticklish.

And of course, last but not least. On father's day we walked over to see Grandma and Grandpa H from our house because it was BEAUTIFUL outside. I lathered both babies up it sunscreen, stuck sun hats on them and sunglasses. They were quite the pair. Grandma Peggy tried to get pictures too but I don't have those so this is the best one we were able to get before we left for our walk.

Antipacifier Ch. 1

Well, last Saturday was the beginning of Dillon's last few days with the pacifier. We managed to get it away from him during the day but he wasn't feeling well over the weekend so I let him keep it at night. Last night was officially his first night without the pacifier. After about 1/2 an hour of screaming/crying I managed to get him to sleep and then he slept for 6 hours without squirming even once. He's been doing great without it, it's even making his naps better during the day! Next comes the transition to the crib from mommy's bed. It was too hard to move him out when he was still using the pacifier so he's on his way out next week! Then after school gets out (7 more days yay!) comes the scary part! We're going to take the pacifier away from KAYDA! It's going to be interesting, we'll let you know how it goes, don't be surprised if Brian and I are exhausted.

Entirely different subject, last Thursday (June 5th) Dillon rolled over from tummy to back for the first time! It was accidental, apparently he was trying to watch grandma G and Kayda play and rolled himself over, he was quite startled. He has yet to repeat the manuever but it's still exciting.

Another first Monday (June 2nd) was Dillon's first swimming lesson. We were going to start him at 4 months but we didn't think he was quite ready for it. So we spent the month before practicing pouring water over his face (with 1-2-3) and getting him used to laying on his back in the bath tub (with support of course). He did great in the pool! He can almost float on his back (his head's just a little too heavy) and I can put him underwater. Of course it's nothing compared to big sister yet but she's also 13 months ahead of him. She LOVES to jump, tries desperately to swim on her own, has absolutely no problems with going underwater and HATES to go on her back. We're trying to find ways to get her comfortable on her back, I've tried it in the bath tub and I've tried letting her rest her head on my shoulder. The only thing that has kind of worked has been holding her on her back out in front of me and running around the pool to make a game of it. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I have a few pictures of swimming but I'm not in the mood to deal with putting them on so they'll be up another day!

One more baby thing. Kayda had two more teeth her bottom "cuspids" I think they're called... Mom feel free to correct me. She only has 6 more baby teeth to go and four of them aren't supposed to come in until around 2 years (her 2 year molars).

Now celebrating my seniors I would like to add that I only had 1 senior fail my class and he's the one that never came so YAY SENIORS!!!
